Card-on-file no-show fee with a one-tap waive

Solo stylists and booth renters collect a card at booking and charge a no-show fee they can waive in one tap, with no marketplace cut or extra client app.

The problem

A Treatwell reviewer says prepaid bookings still let clients skip with no consequence, leaving gaps in the day. The same reviewer objects to a deposit split that gives the platform a cut. A Vagaro review complains that cancellation fees apply automatically even when the stylist said they wouldn't charge. Another Vagaro review says clients dislike needing a separate app. Homebase's roundup notes that the premium tools have an entry price that is a barrier for solo operators.

Who has it: Solo hair, nail, lash and massage pros and small chair-rental salons.

What to build first

  • Booking page with services and availability, no client account needed
  • Card saved at booking via Stripe SetupIntent, with a visible cancellation policy
  • Free cancellation window, with an auto-charge after it closes
  • One-tap 'waive fee' or 'charge fee' after a missed appointment
  • Email and SMS reminders with confirm/cancel links
  • Monthly total of fees collected and fees waived

Starter prompt

Paste it into Cursor, Claude Code, Lovable or Bolt and iterate from there.

Build a booking tool for solo beauty professionals called HoldMyChair. Stack: Next.js, Supabase, Stripe Connect (Standard accounts), Resend, optional Twilio. The pro connects Stripe, lists services (name, duration, price), sets weekly availability, and sets a cancellation window (e.g. 24h) and no-show fee (flat amount or percent). The client books at /[pro-slug] with name, phone and email, then saves a card with Stripe SetupIntent. No client account is needed. Show the policy before confirming. Send a confirmation, and a reminder 24h before with confirm and cancel links. If the client cancels inside the window, show the fee and let the pro decide. After the appointment time, the pro's dashboard shows today's appointments with buttons: Attended, No-show (charge fee), No-show (waive). The charge is made off-session on the saved card. Never charge automatically without the pro's tap, and include a toggle for automatic charging. Add a monthly summary of fees charged and waived.

What could go wrong

This is a crowded market (Vagaro, Fresha, Booksy, Square), and Stripe Connect adds compliance work. Many solo pros take bookings by DM and may not switch.

Where we found it

  • Treatwell reviews on Capterra — A salon owner says prepaid bookings reduce no-shows but clients can still skip without consequence, leaving gaps. They also object to a 20-30% deposit being split with the platform.
  • Vagaro reviews on Capterra — One reviewer says cancellation fees apply automatically even when the vendor says they won't charge. Another said clients disliked needing a separate app. A third left Vagaro because it was far too expensive and overblown for what they needed.
  • Best Salon Management Software 2026 (Homebase) — Notes that the premium salon tool Mangomint has an entry price that creates a real barrier for solo operators and smaller salons.
