Waitlist and deposit page for small hobby breeders
Gives a small dog or cat breeder a public waitlist-position page, deposit links and litter updates without a full breeding-software suite.
The problem
Breeders run waitlists on paper or spreadsheets and worry about losing a note or a buyer's deposit. One breeder site shows what the DIY version looks like: an interest form, a calendar call, a deposit agreement, a $500 deposit, a waitlist page, and a selection day in waitlist order. They had to wire this together from a generic CRM. Existing breeder platforms bundle genetics, Gantt charts and marketplaces that a hobby breeder with one or two litters a year doesn't need.
Who has it: Small hobby breeders of dogs and cats with 1-4 litters a year and a waitlist of 5-30 buyers.
Who pays
The breeder pays, because it saves hours of messaging per litter and protects deposits and pick order from disputes. · $12-19/month, or $9 per litter
Offer the first litter free, then $12-19/month or $9 per litter. Find first users by joining breeder-focused Facebook groups and breed-club forums, and by offering to set up a litter page for a few breeders for feedback.
What to build first
- Interest form that adds applicants to a litter waitlist
- Stripe deposit link; position is set by deposit date
- Public page where buyers see their own position (by a private code)
- Selection day: breeder drags the pick order and buyers get notified
- Litter update posts and photos emailed to the whole waitlist
- Refund and transfer handling notes per buyer
Suggested stack
Next.js Supabase Stripe Connect Resend Tailwind
Starter prompt
Paste it into Cursor, Claude Code, Lovable or Bolt and iterate from there.
Build a web app called LitterList for small hobby breeders. Stack: Next.js, Supabase (auth, Postgres, storage), Stripe Connect (Express) for deposits straight to the breeder, Resend, Tailwind. Model: breeders, litters (name, due date, go-home date, deposit amount), applicants (name, email, preferences, notes), waitlist_entries (litter, applicant, deposit_paid_at, position, status), updates (litter, text, photo). Flow: breeder creates a litter and gets a public page with an application form. After approving an applicant, the breeder sends a Stripe deposit link. Position is by deposit time, and breeders can manually reorder with an audit trail. Buyers get a private-code page showing their position, litter updates and selection day. Breeder can post updates that email the whole waitlist. Add a selection-day view for assigning pick order. No marketplace and no genetics. Include a free first litter.
What could go wrong
Established breeder software (BreederHQ, BreederBuddy) already covers waitlists and Stripe deposits, so this is only viable as a very light, cheap option. Breeders may also carry reputational and legal exposure around deposits and refund rules, so keep your terms clear and leave policy to the breeder.
Where we found it
- Breeder's pet purchase process page — A breeder describes a manual flow: interest form, call, deposit agreement, $500 deposit, waitlist position shown on a litter page, and pick order on selection day.
- American Breeder: managing a puppy waiting list — Warns that paper waitlists get messy and breeders can misplace a note or lose track of a deposit; recommends ordering by deposit date.
- BreederBuddy waitlist software page — A competitor offers deposits, picking order and buyer status in one record, which confirms demand and also the competition.
